Healthy Morning Routine Habits

Creating a consistent morning routine is one of the best ways to ensure you’re going to have a great day. There are many things that can help you create the perfect morning routine, but it’s  important that you find what works for you.

Here are some healthy habits you can add to your morning routine to make sure you have the best day possible!

Wake Up Early

You might have already guessed that this would be at the top of our list. There are many studies that show the benefits of waking up early, and this is the best way to start your day. You get to have more down time before you go to work, school or whatever plans you have for the day.

Of course with this, you need to make sure you are going to bed early enough as well. Make sure you are getting at least 8 hours of sleep each night so that you are not feeling sluggish the next morning.

Journal

Journaling is a space where you can dump all of your feelings onto paper. This is a great way to get out any racing thoughts you might have in your head. You may be feeling anxious for the day, or even super excited about something. Whatever it is, journaling can be very therapeutic, especially in the morning.

If you are stuck on what to write about, there are many journal prompts online. You can use these to gather ideas about what to write.

Meditate

Meditating is another great way to clear your mind before the day. It is a great way to start with a clean headspace. You can meditate on your own or follow one of the many videos on the internet that guide you through a mediation session. Taking time to breathe and be still can really benefit your overall health. You are sure to see results in your physical and mental health when you consistently add this to your routine.

Exercise

Getting any form of physical activity in the morning is not only great for your body but also your mind. This can be anything from doing some simple stretches to going to a workout class. Find something that works for you and your lifestyle.

Maybe you like to workout harder in the evening? You can still go on a short walk or do some yoga in the mornings as well.  There is something about starting your day with a little movement that can make a huge impact on your day.

Eat a Healthy Breakfast

Part of having a healthy morning routine is getting a healthy breakfast. Breakfast is what you use as fuel throughout the day. Make sure you are putting good food in your body at the beginning. Starting with a healthy breakfast can also lead to healthier choices throughout the day.

Avoid the Caffeine

There have been many studies by doctors and nutritionists that show the benefits of skipping caffeine in the mornings. Many people live by the motto that they “can’t function until they have their morning coffee.” However, if you skip the morning caffeine, you might just find that you are more productive.

The reasoning behind this is because your cortisol levels are the highest when you first wake up. Cortisol is one of your stress hormones, which means your energy levels are highest in the mornings.  Therefore, if you are drinking caffeine in the mornings, you are not maximizing the effects. When you drink caffeine in the mornings, your energy will be up for a while, but then will dip later in the afternoon.

Instead of drinking your caffeinated drink in the morning, wait until your energy levels are lower later in the day.
